The Office of Financial and Insurance Services (OFIS) govern all the insurance entities in the state including Michigan Health Insurance. As per the federal law a newborn child as well as a legally adopted child is covered under the Michigan Health Insurance policy of either of his parents for the first 31 days.

The policy of any person cannot be cancelled if he falls sick provided his premium is paid in time.

According to the law, groups must accept all the pre-existing health conditions. However there are certain provisions for this law like the imposition of an 18 months waiting period.

MIChild as a part of the program for the children of the working families in Michigan. This program is provided through many HMOs all over the country. The MIChid is available for the children below 19 years of age, who are also a permanent citizen of the U.S. and are residing in Michigan at least for quite some time. The benefits provided by the MIChild include regular checkups, dental care, medicines, shots as well as the mental health care.
